Directed by Matthew Floyd, the film serves as a bridge between the Greatest Generation and the Millennial perspective, offering a rare, unfiltered look at what it means to live a life of consequence. By eschewing a traditional narrator and allowing his grandfather, Jack Weber, to tell his own story, Floyd creates an atmosphere of immediate, visceral connection that makes the viewer feel like a silent guest at a private family gathering.
As a directorial debut, the film is remarkably assured. Floyd avoids the typical structural traps of biographical documentaries, instead opting for a narrative fluidity that jumps across time with creative abandon.
